How Long Does a Spray Foam Project Take? A Comprehensive Guide

When planning a spray foam insulation project, knowing how long it will take is crucial. While various factors can influence the duration, our team uses some reliable guidelines to estimate the time needed for each job. Below, we break down the process to give you a better understanding of the timeline.

1. Morning Preparation at Our Shop

Every job begins at our shop in Greene, New York. Our crew arrives at 7:30 AM to load the necessary foam and review the day’s plan. This preparation typically takes 30-45 minutes.

2. Travel Time to the Job Site

Most of our projects are in locations such as Binghamton, Ithaca, or Syracuse—about an hour's drive from Greene. Our rigs usually leave the shop between 8:00 and 8:15 AM. We always send a text message when we’re on the way, so you’ll know when to expect us.

3. On-Site Set-up and Walk-Through

Upon arrival, our team likes to conduct a walk-through with you before starting. This is an opportunity to confirm expectations, answer any questions, and identify any areas that should not be sprayed.

Once everything is clear, our lead sprayer begins the start-up process in the trailer, which takes about 45 minutes. Meanwhile, another team member will start prepping the area by covering and masking off sections. By the time the equipment is ready, the prep work is usually done, and spraying can begin.

4. Spraying the Foam

We typically start spraying between 9:00 and 9:30 AM, depending on humidity levels (which must be below 80%). Once the spraying begins, our team can cover about 1,000 board feet per hour per rig, translating to around $1,300 worth of foam. In open spaces like pole barns, we can work even faster, while tight crawl spaces may slow us down to about half the speed.

 5. Clean-Up and Rig Shut Down

After spraying, our work isn’t quite done. We still need to scrape any excess foam, clean up the site, and shut down our rig. This process takes about 30 minutes, with one team member handling the cleanup while the other shuts down the equipment.

Once the job is complete, we either head to the next site or return home. As you can see, there’s more to a spray foam project than just the spraying itself.

Our team prides itself on efficiency and clear communication throughout the process.
